Who do you follow?
It can be all consuming to follow too many public figures so I am highly selective. Here are the three top figures that feed my brain, my values, and my moral compass (in no particular order):
Peter Diamandis : Founded Singularity University, Chairman of X Prize, cofounder of Zero Gravity Corporation, amongst a dozen other things. Peter is a huge forward thinker with an astounding view of the world, and technology related invention. He is an incredible optimist and fires me up with his enthusiasm and energy, sharing his view of what the future holds for us and why.
Sir Richard Branson: Hasn’t done badly for himself despite suffering from dyslexia and becoming an entrepreneur out of high school. He built the Virgin Group beginning with the record industry and now heavily into transportation and other ventures. Sir Richard appeals to me because of his rising above his challenges - and because of what he has done with his success. He is a major philanthropist working with children and also a player in space travel. What I also respect is the communication and involvement he has with his employees, he seems to treat them as equals, listens, and is a forward spirit in terms of his leadership style. Also an adventurer... perhaps something I would like to see more in myself.
Bill Gates: Not only for the creation of Microsoft, more so for his philanthropic endeavors and what he is doing with his success. He has been able to get others to follow his commitment to giving away his wealth. This now seems to be how he spends his time - committed to solve the large problems in the world (similar to Peter Diamandis’ X Prize venture). Definitely keeps a lower profile than Peter or Sir Richard.
On reflection, these three have a fair amount in common; self made, entrepreneurs, forward thinkers, looking to use their success for the benefit of others.
