Automation Anywhere
It's the start of a new month and with that comes the usual host of reporting activities to close out a month's worth of metrics, reporting, billing, and other performance results. We always expect to have the entire previous month closed out by the 12th of the new month. I remember there was one performance month where Susan was out of the office on an unexpected leave. Susan provided all month-end billing. That February wasn't pretty. After all, it takes a lot of data-dumps, vlookups, copy/pastes, analysis and net outs to complete the performance results of any given month. And everyone who was critical to the quality of this process knew better than to take off for the first part of a month.
This month is different.
This month we are using Automation Anywhere's Robotic Process Automation. You see, every month our steps to close out a month were the same. We would log into the various systems and applications and download the raw data into Excel. We would compare it against last month's data, last quarter's data and last year's data. We would provide a graphical depiction of the performance, and provide a net out based on the values about where we were trending, whether good or bad. All of these steps have to happen. But the people responsible for these tasks are well-trained, well-compensation individuals, who just became really savvy in Excel functions, and less inclined to drive meaningful action from the results of the data.
So now we have a bot doing those tasks instead. Bots don't clock in or out. They don't call in sick or take vacation. They do tasks that are repeatable and are rule-based. And now our metrics and reporting team has the time to provide insights about the future, based on the data from the bots.
